Johannesburg - ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa has told ANC Youth League delegates that the ANC will not be run by the country's courts.

Ramaphosa was addressing the 25th national congress of the youth league, which started on Friday morning after an application to halt it by a group of disgruntled youth league members from North West province was dismissed by the Pretoria High Court on Thursday.

According to Ramaphosa, those who rush to the courts to raise internal ANC matters clearly do not love the ANC.

“We cannot allow the ANC to be run by the courts. Those who rush to the courts do not love the ANC, they only love themselves,” he said.

Ramaphosa urged the league to take the lead in the struggle for economic emancipation.

He said the league must make itself attractive to young people, and be seen as the light for young people in South Africa.

“It must be on the radio, on Twitter, on Facebook. It must engage in the battle of ideas.

“The ANC Youth League must be the defender of the ANC at all costs. They must engage with those who hate the ANC and want to defeat the ANC,” said Ramaphosa.

He said the league must be an organisation that builds alliances.
