Cape Town - The Western Cape ANC has accused the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) leader Corné Mulder of using old apartheid “swart gevaar” tactics to scare voters.

On Tuesday Mulder said an ANC take-over of the Western Cape in the 2014 elections “must be prevented at all costs”.

“We have already seen the ANC governing in other provinces and on national level. The people of the Western Cape deserve much better,” he said.

“It is the ANC’s policy of affirmative action in the Western Cape, which discriminates against brown and white people, that voters have to reject.

“The FF+ in the Western Cape is prepared, and will co-operate with other political parties, to ensure that the ANC does not get control of the Western Cape in 2014.”

Provincial ANC leader Marius Fransman came out guns blazing, posting on Facebook: “Ah-ah! The Freedom Front+, through Dr Corné Mulder, has brought out a statement on Tuesday saying that they and DA must work together to stop Fransman and ANC from taking back the WC! So now the true DA friends come forward… As I said two years ago our Path to People’s Power in WC for 2014 is unstoppable!”

Fransman said right-wingers were banding together for racist reasons. The DA-led government, of which Mulder and the FF+ were coalition partners, only looked after the interests of the rich at the expense of the majority poor working class people,” he said. “It is clear that the FF+ is prepared to be swallowed by the DA, like the New National Party, Federal Alliance and ID. The last remaining FF+ supporters might as well vote for the DA.”
