Brits - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is a threat to the ruling African National Congress, provincial leader Chris Hattingh said on Saturday.

“Where we govern, we govern well, we deliver. Where we govern we have transparent procurement process, we are accountable,” he told delegates at the North West elective conference at Hartebeespoort Dam.

“The ANC is under siege. They used Moses Kotane to rally support going into the 2016 local government election.”

Hattingh, who has led the party for 16 years and was not standing for re-election, said the ANC used the re-burial of struggle veterans JB Marks and Moses Kotane to grow its base after it had failed to deliver on its promises to the voter.

“North West premier Supra Mahumapelo has come with a programme setsokotswane [whirlwind] which is nothing else but a responding mechanism. Whenever there is a protest over service delivery the setsokotswane is unleashed to calm the situation and the ANC claim victory…They even want to change the name of our province to Moses Kotane.”

He said changing the name of the province would cost millions of rand.

“The ANC in North West has failed the voters. Thirty percent of municipalities in the province are under administration and three provincial government departments are under financial administration.”

He said DA was the only party that has grown in every election.

Hatting who would remain a DA Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL), said he would support the elected leader of the party in the North West.
