Johannesburg - Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim should avoid making statements in public, ANC spokesman Keith Khoza told the SABC on Saturday.
Khoza said Jim should focus on resolving problems within the National Union of Metalworkers of SA instead of calling for resignations.
Khoza could not be reached by Sapa for comment.
On Thursday, Jim said President Jacob Zuma and the Cabinet ministers who defended the spending on his Nkandla homestead should resign.
“The president must resign. Further, we call on those ministers who scandalously defended the president and misled the public on Nkandla to resign as well,” he told reporters at the time.
Earlier this week, government spokeswoman Phumla Williams said the security cluster of ministers would approach a high court for a judicial review of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's Nkandla report.
Williams said the ministers believed that Madonsela's findings lacked clarity in some areas and were “irrational, contradictory and... informed by material errors of law”.
Madonsela, in her report, found that Zuma and his family had unduly benefited from R246 million security upgrades to his private Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal, which included a swimming pool, a cattle kraal, and an amphitheatre.
She recommended, among other things, that he repay a portion of the money.
Zuma has said previously that he will await the outcome of another probe by the Special Investigating Unit before responding to the matter. - Sapa
