Durban - Despite claims of exam papers leaking in the Limpopo province, KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Peggy Nkonyeni says exams are “proceeding very well”.

Last week a Life Sciences matric exam paper was leaked and newspaper reports in the City Press on Sunday said it was feared the paper could have been leaked in Gauteng and Mpumalanga as well.

Education officials are now investigating the cause of the leak and the extent of it.

In KZN, the Department of Education said they were happy about the matric examinations.

Nkonyeni said the examinations team was doing a “great job”.

“The team dealing with the whole work involving examinations is so far doing a great job. We are all happy with what we have been observing, from the first day of examinations until now,” said Nkonyeni.

KZN is the biggest exam district in the country – with more than 230 000 candidates writing their National Senior Certificate at more than 1 700 schools and exam centres.

KZN spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said the transportation of exam papers had been good as papers arrived at exam venues on time.
