Eyewitness News has learnt that suspended ANC Youth League Julius Malema and other youth league leaders have now lodged their appeals with the chairman of the ANC's disciplinary appeals panel Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday.

Malema and other leaders are appealing against their convictions for sowing divisions in the party.

The league's leader was suspended from the party for five years.

It is understood the leaders' appeal documents have just been handed to Ramaphosa's office.

It was thought the appeal is likely to rest heavily on the fact that the leaders were not given a chance to argue in mitigation of sentence after being convicted, but before being sentenced.

Ramaphosa and his panel will now have to go through the appeal documents before deciding on a way forward. - Eye Witness News
