The media and the police faced-off over access to ANC delegates at the party's national policy conference on Wednesday.
ANC spokesman Keith Khoza told reporters they had to stay away from the conference hall while commissions were sitting, but could speak to delegates during tea and lunch breaks.
During the lunch break, police walked up to reporters and photographers from various media houses and confiscated their accreditation tags.
Photographers from the Daily Sun and the Mail&Guardian had their cameras taken away.
