Johannesburg - Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale will visit Extension 13 in Lenasia on Monday following the demolition of houses illegally erected on government land.

Sexwale, the SA Human Rights Commission and residents held a closed meeting in Lenasia ahead of his inspection of the area.

Sexwale would inspect the sites where demolitions had taken place and would later speak at a public meeting of residents.

Almost three weeks ago, 50 houses were demolished by the Gauteng department of local governance and housing.

At the time, the department said it was acting within the law when it tore down houses.

On Thursday, Cabinet asked Sexwale to urgently intervene in the situation by working with the provincial department to reach a solution.

He would be accompanied on his visit by Gauteng housing MEC Ntombi Mekgwe.
