Pretoria - Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe will run against President Jacob Zuma at the ANC's national conference in Mangaung, three radio stations reported on Wednesday.

SAfm “reliably learnt” that Motlanthe would accept nominations for the top position in the African National Congress.

Both stations also reported that current ANC treasurer Mathews Phosa had accepted nominations for the position of deputy president.

Phosa told EyeWitness News: “I confirm that I have accepted the nomination... to be a candidate for deputy president.”

He said he accepted the nomination out of respect to the ANC branches.

Jacaranda FM on its Twitter page said Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula had also accepted nomination for the position of secretary general. - Sapa
