Cape Town -

Mingling with ANC leaders at the ruling party’s annual anniversary gala dinner in Cape Town next month will come at a cost – a table at the glitzy event commands as much as R3 million.

The ANC plans to celebrate its 103rd anniversary at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on January 9.

ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said President Jacob Zuma would deliver his “message which is more like a directive for the country and what must happen” at Cape Town Stadium on January 10.

“It is a national event and people will come from all over the country and outside the country. We will have an official fundraising dinner on the night before the rally,” said Kodwa.

Anyone keen on attending the dinner would need to pay between R400 000 and R3m per table.

Kodwa added: “There will be many parties. People organise all these events.”

The ANC-linked Progressive Youth Business (PYB), based at the party’s headquarters in Luthuli House, is organising the official after-party to follow the rally at the stadium.

PYB national convener Malusi Zondo said the event at a venue in Roeland Street, up the road from Parliament, would cost R5 000 to R30 000 per table.

“After every event, there is an after-party. This is a party for the youth, ANC leaders and business,” said Zondo.

“There will be no speeches. Just music, food and dance. And meeting great people under one roof.”

Zondo said they had “not yet confirmed which ANC leaders will be there”.

“It’s an open platform for people who want to network with the ANC leadership and businesses.”
