Johannesburg - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived at the ANC Youth League congress in Midrand.

Ramaphosa was accompanied by ANC treasurer, Zweli Mkhize and deputy secretary-general, Jessie Duarte.

Other senior leaders from the mother body included deputy minister, Mcebisi Skwatsha, Ayanda Dlodlo and Andries Nel, and ministers Nathi Mthethwa, Fikile Mbalula and Malusi Gigaba.

Ramaphosa will open the congress, while President Jacob Zuma will address congress on Saturday.

Ramaphosa’s address was preceded by a performance by poet, Mzwakhe Mbuli.

Meanwhile, North West MEC Collen Maine was repeatedly touted by delegates as the front-runner for the top position in the league.

Speaking to Independent, Maine would not be drawn on whether he was confident of winning the top job.
