Johannesburg - The SA Police Service has lodged a complaint with Icasa over the Democratic Alliance's election advert, Icasa said on Wednesday.

“The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa... notifies the media and all stakeholders that the Complaints and Compliance Committee has received a complaint from the SAPS in connection with the DA's political advertisement currently being broadcast by the SA Broadcasting Corporation,” spokesman Paseka Maleka said in a statement.

He said the complaint was lodged with the committee on an urgent basis for adjudication and possible hearing on April 19.

“After consulting with all relevant parties (SAPS, DA and SABC), the committee decided to hold a public hearing in order to expedite the matter,” he said.

The hearing would take place on Thursday at Icasa's head office in Sandton.
