Johannesburg - With press conferences and countless interview requests, and a parody of Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was undoubtedly this week’s newsmaker.

Now, 2 500 people on Facebook have liked the idea of having Madonsela as the country’s next president.

Created last Saturday, a spoof account titled “Thuli Madonsela for President 2019” is steadily growing, complete with many optimistic comments from people applauding their super “shero” and “champion” for her fine work and relentless efforts to fight corruption.

“Good job, advocate, you are playing a vital role in our constitution,” posted one user, while another wrote: “Thank you for being our champion and making us believe that there is justice in this land. I would like to implore you to look into (investigate) the loss of R30 billion in corruption and hold Zuma accountable for this loss… while you are about it, impeach the scoundrel.” Some went as far as suggesting that with all the backlash from various sectors, Madonsela needed to get her own protector.

There are several other Facebook pages dedicated to Madonsela, including the “Friends of Advocate Thuli Madonsela” and the “Thuli Madonsela Support Group”.

In April, Madonsela was included on Time Magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people.
