Pretoria - The US embassy in Pretoria gave the assurance on Tuesday that the partial shutdown of the American government would not affect relations with South Africa or any services provided by the embassy and other US missions in South Africa.

“The US government shutdown is an internal budget issue and will not affect our relations with South Africa,” said US embassy spokeswoman Melissa Ford. “There will be no interruption in our services from the embassy. It won’t affect consular services so we will continue processing visa requests. And American citizen services will be available for Americans abroad.

“Our diplomatic missions will continue operating as usual and we hope it will be a short interruption.”
