Johannesburg - Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi made his mark in South Africa's fifth general elections on Wednesday after waiting patiently in the queue.
He joined the line just after 1pm at Ernest Ullman park in Morningside Manor, north of Johannesburg, and voted at 1.25pm.
He was wearing a shirt branded with the South African flag.
He was not accompanied by his wife.
The queue was long, but moved quickly.
Vavi was the 374th voter at the station.
“I've voted in every election, I'm a veteran. If we were to stay away from voting it would mean we were completely irresponsible,” Vavi told reporters after casting his ballot.
“South Africa is a maturing democracy and we must celebrate that.”
He said he was voting for the future of South Africa, which promised more jobs, less poverty and the eradication of hunger. - Sapa
