Johannesburg - Although Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has been dismissed, the federation may still pursue financial maladministration charges against him.

Cosatu deputy general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali told reporters on Tuesday that a task team would interrogate two forensic reports, which make a number of accusations against Vavi, and others, and seek legal advice.

“Where they have indentified fraudulent activities, (they) will take issues to the law enforcement agencies,” he said.

Two investigations by financial auditors SizweNtsalubaGobodo, which was ordered by Cosatu, have accused Vavi of financial maladministration related to the sale and purchase of Cosatu building. He has also being accused of a conflict of interest because the company chosen to supply Cosatu with IT and telecommunication services was linked to Vavi’s wife and stepdaughter.

Vavi has denied all the charges against him, saying the probe was part of a witch hunt by the majority in Cosatu.

Vavi has been ordered to return all property to Cosatu and to stop speaking on behalf of the federation.
