COPE leader Mosiuoa Lekota has called for President Jacob Zuma to be impeached for refusing “to obey a Supreme Court of Appeal order” to hand over the spy tapes that formed the basis for charges against him to be dropped.

Lekota immediately came under attack from ANC chief whip Mathole Motshekga when he made the call in a member’s statement delivered in the National Assembly yesterday afternoon.

Motshekga accused him of making unsubstantiated allegations and “character assassination of the head of state”.
