Parliament - The new Higher Education Amendment Bill will not interfere with academic freedom, President Jacob Zuma said on Thursday.

Zuma is answering questions in the National Assembly for the last time this year.

He will be responding to questions on university autonomy, the independence of the IEC, and drought and water shortages.

“We need to get the balance right between autonomy and accountability at universities,” Zuma said.

The Higher Education Amendment Bill won't interfere with university independence, it enhances the relationship, the president said.
