Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has extended the deadline for the Seriti Commission of Inquiry's public hearings into alleged corruption in the multi-billion-rand arms procurement deal, his office said on Friday.
The term of the commission had been extended to April 30, 2015, spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
“Upon the conclusion of the term, the commission shall submit its final report to the president within a period of six months after the date on which the commission completes its work,” said Maharaj.
Zuma appointed the commission, chaired by Judge Willie Seriti, three years ago to investigate alleged corruption in the 1999 arms deal.
The government acquired, among other hardware, 26 Gripen fighter aircraft and 24 Hawk lead-in fighter trainer aircraft for the air force, and frigates and submarines for the navy.
