The group of 11 car guards who were given a R2.4-million Audi R8 as a gift by an anonymous donor four months ago, is honouring their part of the deal by "spreading goodwill".

The car guards, who work at the Table Mountain cableway station, were given the car by a local businessman. All he wanted in return was that they perform good deeds.

The group are in the process of registering as a non-profit organisation called Future For All. Half of the group still works on the mountain, while the other half focuses on the charity work.

One of the first projects the group tackled was setting up a créche for the children of the Marcus Garvey area in Philippi.

They arranged for Siyasanga Mgoduka and three other women, all of whom have child care training, to volunteer their time at the créche.

Mgoduka said that before the créche was established, young children had roamed the streets while their parents were at work. "It's good to know that a safe space has been created for them," she said.
