Cape Town - The biggest tribute South Africans can pay to the late Nelson Mandela is to uphold the Constitution, former president FW de Klerk said on Friday.
He told reporters in Cape Town: “That Constitution encapsulates the values for which he stood. He was not only a man of wisdom and a man of integrity and a man of vision, he was also a magnanimous man.”
De Klerk was a joint recipient with Mandela of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
He spoke at length of Mandela's warmth and “great charm”.
In a statement released after the announcement of Mandela's death on Thursday night, he said it had been an honour to work with Mandela. - Sapa
