Johannesburg - The abaThembu royal family has called a meeting to resolve apparent infighting in the Mandela family, The New Age reported on Tuesday.
“The meeting will resolve and find a solution to preserve stability in the Mphakanyiswa Mandela (Nelson Mandela's father) house,” chief Daludumo Mtirara told the newspaper.
He said various royal houses connected to the Madiba clan had been invited to meet in Qunu, Eastern Cape, on January 16.
The meeting was expected to resolve, among other issues, who would be appointed head of customs in the Mandela house.
There had reportedly been tensions between eldest daughter Makaziwe Mandela and grandson Mandla Mandela about who should hold senior rank.
Days after Nelson Mandela's death in December 2013, Makaziwe Mandela reportedly changed the locks of the Qunu homestead to lock Mandla out.
In October, ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela launched a court bid to obtain the former president's Qunu home Ä which she has claimed belongs to her, but which he left to a trust in his will. - Sapa
