Port Elizabeth - Water supply problems in Port Elizabeth have been resolved, the Nelson Mandela Bay metro said on Friday.

“Due to the latest stability and consistency in electricity distribution going into our treatment works and pump stations, we have managed to refill our reservoirs,” the municipality said in a statement.

On Thursday, The Herald reported that the area was facing a full-blown water crisis, with water restrictions likely to come into effect soon.

The water outages were as a result of rolling electricity blackouts.

The municipality called on all residents to use water and electricity sparingly.

“The Nelson Mandela Bay area is experiencing a shortage of rainfall, which has led to our dam levels decreasing to about 70 percent. We want to confirm that we are considering water restrictions, depending on water consumption and rainfall.”

Residents and businesses were asked to reduce water consumption by at least 10 percent.
