King William’s Town - Two policemen died and two other people, including a prisoner, were injured in a head-on collision near King William's Town on Thursday morning, Eastern Cape police said.
Four vehicles were involved in the collision on the R63 between King William's Town and Stutterheim, Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa said.
Two warrant officers transporting a prisoner to the Stutterheim Magistrate's Court, died in a collision with a truck.
The prisoner sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard. The truck driver was injured and taken to hospital.
The drivers of the two other vehicles involved, a Toyota Yaris and a Mazda bakkie, were unharmed.
A culpable homicide case was opened.
