Johannesburg - Eskom said on Tuesday it had widened the outages it implemented earlier in the day to prevent the national grid from being overwhelmed as demand threatens to outstrip capacity.

Eskom said on its website that it was moving its controlled outages from “Stage One” to “Stage Two”, which means it has to reduce 2 000 MW from the grid from 1 000 MW earlier.

The company said the blackouts will remain until 10pm on Tuesday.
