Johannesburg - Five people died when their vehicle collided with a truck on the N5 near Bethlehem in the Free State on Tuesday morning, paramedics said.

Both vehicles caught fire, said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

“Once the fire was extinguished, paramedics discovered the burned bodies of three males and two females lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Unfortunately all five occupants had sustained fatal injuries,” Meiring said.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the collision was not known.
