Johannesburg -

The Free State teacher who allegedly displayed the old South African flag and pictures of EFF leader Julius Malema alongside monkeys in his class has been fired, Beeld reported on Saturday.

Lenard Mac Kay, a teacher at Wilgehof Primary in Bloemfontein, who was found guilty of bringing the department into disrepute, said he would appeal the sanction.

In October last year the SA Human Rights Commission found him guilty of racism and hate speech.

His dismissal reportedly follows that of principal Fanie Roeloffze.

Last month a disciplinary hearing by the Free State education department found Roeloffze guilty of not doing anything about the displays. - Sapa
