Cape Town – Three people, including a five-month old girl, died when the bakkie they were travelling in overturned in Ficksburg in the Free State.

ER24 reported that the accident happened on Saturday evening on the R26.

Three other people were also injured in the accident.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find a bakkie lying on its side on a gravel road,” ER24 reported.

“Occupants from the bakkie were lying all around the scene.”

“On assessment, paramedics found that six people had been travelling in the bakkie when it left the road and rolled multiple times.”

“Two lifeless bodies of a male in his 40s and 5-month-old girl were found lying lying 20 metres away. Unfortunately both patients had already succumb to their multiple fatal injuries prior to the arrival of paramedics.”

“Four other patients were found lying some distance away, two of them critically injured,” ER24 said.

“Paramedics set out treating the patients and providing the two critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions. Once stable, the critically injured patients were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

“Unfortunately, en route to hospital, one of the critically patients succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead.”

Two other patients on scene were found to have sustained moderate injuries and were treated on scene before being transported to a nearby facility for further treatment.

The cause of the accident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations. - ANA
