Johannesburg - Twelve people, 10 of them children aged between 4 and 12, were injured when a taxi drove through a perimeter wall and crashed into a house on Lydia Road in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

All 12 the passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were taken to Tembisa Hospital for further observation, emergency services spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

No one in the house was injured.

The driver of the taxi, who was reported to be only 17 years old, allegedly said the brakes had failed, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigation.
