Johannesburg - At least 15 people were injured on Tuesday morning after two taxis collided at the Golden Highway and Main Road intersection in Naturena, south of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found two wrecked taxis in the middle of the intersection.

On inspection, paramedics found at least 15 patients sitting in the taxis as well as lying on the nearby pavement being tended to by members of the public. Injuries ranged from minor to moderate.

Paramedics set up a staging area to treat patients on the scene before the injured were transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

It is alleged that one of the taxis apparently skipped a red traffic light, causing the incident. Local authorities were investigation the cause of the accident.
