Johannesburg - Five people were killed in an early-morning collision on the R21 South in Centurion on Thursday.
It is believed one of the cars hit the side barrier of the road before being ripped to pieces.
ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said paramedics arrived on the scene just before 2am and found an Audi Q7 lying on its roof and another vehicle torn into several pieces.
He said four people between 25 and 35 years old from the torn vehicle were found lying on the highway. Another person was found dead inside the vehicle.
The driver of the Audi was walking around with only minor injuries.
