Johannesburg – A child, believed to be aged between 6 and 9 years, was killed after he was hit by a car on the R21 near Johannesburg on Friday, according to paramedics.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident occurred on the R21 in Olifantsfontein, near Midrand.

“Paramedics from the ER24 Johannesburg Central branch arrived on scene and found the male child lying in the middle island between the two roads.”

Meiring said the paramedics found that the child had already succumbed to his multiple injuries and that nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead at the accident scene.

“The driver of the light motor vehicle escaped without injury,” said Meiring

Paramedics were unable to identify the child as he had no form of identification and as such authorities had not yet been able to contact the parents or guardian of the child.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
