Pretoria - The DA in Gauteng has asked Premier David Makhura to release the final report of the task team he appointed to assess the socio-economic impact of e-tolls on residents.

The DAon Monday lodged a Public Access to Information Act application with the premier’s office. Makhura has 30 days to respond to the application.

DA Gauteng leader John Moodey said he would approach the high court if Makhura failed to make the report public.

He said Makhura had submitted to pressure from ANC headquarters, and said he would not table the report for public perusal and comment in the Gauteng legislature last week.

“What Premier Makhura and Luthuli House conveniently forget is that the review panel conducted its hearings at the expense of public funds, and the public have the right of access to a report that directly affects their lives,” said Moodey.

He said: “By failing to make the report public, Premier Makhura chose to side with his political masters, despite his September 30 promise of, ‘If needs be,I am prepared to stick with the people of Gauteng’.”

The DA would continue to fight until e-tolls were scrapped, he said.

Last week, Makhura insisted that he would release the findings only after he had consulted on the matter with the national government.
