Four camps were closed in the Kruger National Park on Thursday due to flooding, SA National Parks (SANParks) said.
The flooding was the result of heavy rain across the southern parts of the reserve.
“As a safety precaution, it has been decided to close the... facilities,” SANParks spokesman Reynold Thakhuli said.
The Shimuwini, Bateleur, Sirheni and Balule camps had been closed.
The closures took effect from midday on Thursday.
“Attempts to supply alternative accommodation will be made,” he said.
Guests were advised to contact the park authorities to make alternative arrangements.
“All our main camps are not affected and the park is still accessible,” Thakhuli said.
Roads and bridges in the park had also been affected by the flooding.
“All gravel roads in the south of the park, as well as the Crocodile Bridge Gate, are closed.”
The H10 road between Lower Sabie and Tshokwane was also closed.
Skukuza was accessible only through Phabeni and the Kruger Gate, or from the north of the park. Lower Sabie was accessible through Phabeni and Kruger Gate, or from the north of the park.
The H1/1 road between Pretoriuskop and Skukuza was closed. Pretoriuskop was only accessible through the Numbi Gate.
Thakuli said several rivers in the park were in flood, including the Limpopo and the Crocodile rivers.
The Talamati low-water bridge was flooded, and the Talamati bush camp and the Biyamiti bush camp had been closed. - Sapa
