Johannesburg - Four people died in a crash in Boksburg on Friday afternoon, said Ekurhuleni disaster and emergency services.

They were passengers in a vehicle which collided with a double-cab bakkie at the intersection of Middle and Rondebult roads in Boksburg at 2.10pm, spokesman William Ntladi said in a statement.

A rescue team arrived to find three people, including a three-month-old baby, trapped in the other vehicle, an Opel Corsa Lite, he said.

They used the Jaws-of-Life to reach them and provide them with medical treatment. The three were taken to the OR Tambo Memorial Hospital, in Boksburg.

A woman in the car was critically injured, the baby was in serious but stable condition, and the driver suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Navara bakkie also had minor injuries and was taken to Sunward Park hospital.

The police had opened an inquest docket.

Ntladi said it appeared that the four people who died in the accident were from the same family.
