Johannesburg - Engineers were working to restore power in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg on Saturday, City Power said.
“Workers are busy working in the area,” said spokesman Sol Masolo just after 10am.
The Johannesburg metro police said the K43 road would be blocked to traffic because of the repairs.
“Traffic will be blocked off on the K43 between the N12 and Nirvana drive in Lenasia,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
He said the road would be blocked from midday until 8pm.
Motorists were advice to use the Golden Highway and the Midway Bridge as alternative routes.
Power went out on Thursday evening in the areas south of Johannesburg. The power interruption was caused by the theft of 88kV electricity pylons between the Nirvana and Nancefield substations.

Meanwhile, engineers are repairing a vandalised Eskom tower that left residents on the East Rand without power, the Ekurhuleni municipality said on Saturday.
“Work has begun at vandalised Eskom tower in Springs this Morning,” spokesman Themba Gadebe said in a statement.
“Several areas were left without the power supply after a theft of the tower steel elements resulting in the collapse of the Eskom tower.”
The 132kv Eskom tower was vandalised on Friday.
He said engineers worked until late on Friday to restore power but had to stop for safety reasons.
“The repairs are carried out in close proximity to other live overhead lines making it impossible to work through the night.”
The affected areas were Springs CBD, Springs Industrial Area, Pollak Park, Fulcrum, New Era, Krugerus, Dal Fouche and Reedville.
Power was estimated to be restored in the areas by midnight, Gadebe said.
The municipality apologised for the inconvenience caused and urged customers to treat the electricity network points as electrically live at all times.
“Ekurhuleni remains in constant contact with Eskom for regular updates to ensure affected customers are informed.”
Eskom was not immediately available for comment.
