Johannesburg - The Gauteng Department Health received another qualified opinion from the Auditor General, prompting premier David Makhura and his team to give an ultimatum to poorly performing departments and entities to improve or face consequences.

Makhura and Finance MEC Barbara Creecy on Tuesday presented the provincial government's 2015/2016 audit report received from the AG last month.

“The health department is a protracted problem over time. I must emphasise that we are confident that health will be out of the qualified report era in the next audit report... all major problems that used to be a source of headache are being done away with,” said Makhura.

“Health will be ready for the 2016/2017 audit report.” The department, which was previously placed under administration, has been receiving adverse opinions. All the departments, except health, received unqualified opinions.

The departments that achieved clean audits included the Office of the Premier, the provincial legislature, treasury and departments of social development, cooperative governance and traditional affairs, finance and economic development.

The province's agencies also received unqualified opinions, except G Fleet, the province's vehicle fleet management agency, which received a disclaimer. Creecy said G-Fleet did not have proper records.

“If you don't have proper records, you will receive such adverse opinions. We will be helping the agency to establish a proper record system,” she said. A disclaimer indicates that the AG was not able to make a finding from the information provided.
