Johannesburg - You can cool off on Thursday.

The exceptionally warm weather in Gauteng and parts of the North West is due to a heatwave, the SA Weather Service said.

“The heatwave started on Saturday and is expected to continue until Thursday,” said forecaster Elizabeth Webster.

She said a heatwave happens when the average temperature of three consecutive days is hotter than the average temperature of the hottest month.

“If, say, the hottest month is January and the average temperature is 29°, a heatwave will occur if the temperature reaches 34° for more than three days at a time.”
