Johannesburg - A helicopter was forced to make a crash landing on the N12 highway in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Wednesday.

“The helicopter allegedly experienced mechanical failure [on Tuesday night] and the pilot was then forced to land on the closest available space,” ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw said in a statement.

“When... paramedics... arrived they found the crashed helicopter on one side of the road. The helicopter allegedly auto rotated and crash landed in the road.

“Fortunately no motor vehicles or pedestrians were hit and the pilot only sustained minor injuries.”

The incident was being investigated. - Sapa
