Johannesburg - A man died and another was injured when their bakkie and a car collided at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter and Ontdekkers roads, west of Johannesburg on Friday morning, paramedics said.

“Paramedics... found a light motor vehicle sitting in the middle of the intersection. The rear of the vehicle had torn open upon impact. A bakkie lay 50 metres away on its roof,” ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“Two men had been inside the bakkie when the collision occurred. The driver of the vehicle was found to have succumbed to his fatal injuries before the arrival of paramedics. The male passenger was found lying in the back of the vehicle in a critical condition.”

The passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital. The driver of the car was not injured.

The cause of the accident was being investigated.
