Pretoria - Gauteng Infrastructure Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza on Sunday took a swipe at Pretoria’s “grass pastor” who had his congregants ingest petrol and grass as a show of faith.

Rabboni Ministries Pastor Lesego Daniel Mosuoe’s conduct bordered on harmful religious practices the MEC said, speaking on behalf of Gauteng premier, David Makhura.

“Some among us seem to think that we can’t tell the healing power of faith and the medicinal value of faith from harmful religious practices. If you go about feeding people grass and petrol, you must know that you are not a good shepherd.

“You are misleading the folk.

She said fuel was corrosive when ingested and not only does it affect the intestinal territory, but also the nervous system.

“It causes excitement, as though someone has taken drugs. That would explain the strange behaviour reactions after ingestion in the people who drink petrol,” she said.

The MEC said ingesting petrol also posed a danger for the respiratory system.

As for grass, she said humans could not digest grass because it required special enzymes, such as those in herbivorous animals, which humans do not have.

Meanwhile, Mosuoe’s church was packed with worshippers on Sunday.

One of the church’s elders Johannes Bokaba has described Mosuoe as a son of God who was sent to heal the souls of people.

“I believe in Pastor Lesego and everything he does. People can have doubts but he has proven himself over the past years.” he said.

Bokaba said one of the women, who drank petrol and had fallen sick, was now fine.

The photos of the faithful eating grass were allegedly posted on the church’s Facebook group page; a closed page.

“People should stop badmouthing the pastor and the church,” said Bokaba.
