Johannesburg - A meeting between Rea Vaya bus operators and the SA Municipal Workers Union is scheduled for Tuesday morning in a bid to resolve a bus strike, operator Piotrans said.
“The company will meet with the union's attorneys at 10am this morning to finalise the agreement reached overnight,” said spokesman Dumisani Mntambo.
“An announcement is expected to be made by midday.”
Piotrans manages the operations of the Rea Vaya's buses along with Litsamaiso.
Mntambo said the union responded to the operators' proposals on Monday night at 8pm.
He would not divulge what the proposals entailed.
Rea Vaya bus drivers embarked on a strike on Monday, leaving commuters around Johannesburg stranded.
The drivers demanded that labour brokers be banned, the code of conduct be reviewed, senior staff members choose their shifts, and the union to be introduced during the induction of new workers. - Sapa
