Johannesburg -

A memorial service was held in Boksburg on Thursday evening for the four-year-old boy who was dragged to death by hijackers, Eyewitness News reported.

The memorial service in Reiger Park was attended by thousands of people, including Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele, councillors and police officials, according to the report.

Taegrin Morris died after being dragged for a long distance behind a hijacked car last Saturday night.

He was in a VW Golf with his mother, father and sister in Reiger Park, Boksburg, when three men approached them.

Police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Khensane Magoai said the attackers ordered the family out of the vehicle.

Taegrin was left hanging halfway out of the car in his safety belt and was dragged as the car was driven off by the hijackers.

He was found dead in Reiger Park, about 10km away.

On Wednesday, Gauteng police said no arrests had been made in connection with the hijacking which led to Taegrin's death. - Sapa
