Johannesburg - A dead buffalo cow was found lying on the side of the road in Fourways on Wednesday morning.

And someone has cut off the tail of the animal.

Lion Park operations manager Scott Simpson told The Star he received a message from Chatwell Country Estate at around 5am that a buffalo was seen running down Runnymead Road and then made its way down 3rd Street and on to Cedar Road.

“Unfortunately it died near Milmac on Cedar roads,” said Simpson.

He said police came to the Lion Park before 9am to ask if the buffalo belonged to them.

“We don't own buffaloes but we were happy to come pick it up and keep it until someone claims it.”

Simpson said it would be difficult to locate the owner of the animal.

“We have no idea what to do legally in a case of a buffalo being hit by a car or falling from a truck. But hopefully someone claims it.”

The buffalo was removed with the help of the SPCA.
