Johannesburg - A man was killed after a multiple vehicle collision West of Johannesburg on Tuesday, paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident occurred on the N1 Highway near the 14th Road turn-off.
Three lanes of the highway were found blocked by a number of vehicles when paramedics and provincial services arrived on the scene.
“Two trucks and five light motor vehicle lay across the scene, with debris spread across the road,” Meiring said.
The driver of the truck was lying trapped in a critical condition inside his vehicle.
Paramedics and rescue services used the Jaws of Life to free the truck driver.
“Unfortunately, after some time, the man succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries,” Meiring said.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
