Johannesburg -
Orlando Children's Home residents visited former president Nelson Mandela’s old Soweto home in Vilakazi Street in Orlando on Monday.
Mandela visited the children's home in 1990 when he was released from prison, said programme director Miriam Mazibuko.
“Madiba visited the home to wish the children well and to spread the message of hope to them. We have come to bid Tata farewell and to show our appreciation for what he has done for us.”
The home takes in abandoned children from the ages of eight to 18.
The children sang traditional songs and the national anthem.
They were part of an ongoing stream of visitors to the house, now a museum, since Mandela died on Thursday night at his home in Houghton. - Sapa
