Johannesburg - Electricity has been restored in several areas in Soweto following a power outage, Eskom said on Tuesday.

“Our technicians worked around the clock to fix the problem,” the utility's Gauteng spokeswoman Reneiloe Semenya said.

Areas such as Dobsonville, Zola, Molapo, Mapetla, and Protea North were affected by the outage, due to a fault in Eskom's system, on Monday evening.

The last time there was a power outage in the township, residents went on the rampage, burning 15 cars and damaging seven.

Police had to intervene to allow Eskom technicians to fix the cables. - Sapa
