Johannesburg -

A policeman shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend, critically wounded his two-year-old son, and then turned the gun on himself in Temba, north of Pretoria, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

Constable Ali Nkuna, 31, stationed at the Garsfontein police station, killed his ex-girlfriend Fenkie Tlenyana, 31, and Onkgopotse Motshwanedi, 29, around 8pm on Tuesday night, said Captain Doniah Mothutsane.

“The family alleges that the couple was standing at the gate when they suddenly saw Fenkie running into the house screaming for help.”

Nkuna, the father of her two-year-old son, chased her into the house.

“Nkuna was carrying a firearm and he allegedly jumped through the bedroom window where Tlenyane had locked herself inside the bedroom,” said Mothutsane.

“He shot her three times in the upper body. She was carrying their son at the time and one bullet struck the child in the right cheek.”

Nkuna shot himself in the right side of the head. He died on the scene.

“The family later saw Onkgopotse lying dead at the gate as well,” Mothutsane said.

The child was taken to George Mukhari hospital in a critical condition.
