Johannesburg - It’s the rainy season, so Joburgers are warned to drive carefully and anticipate a wet weather up until the weekend.

Weather forecaster Dipuo Tawana said the Joburg area could expect an 80 percent probability for rain on Wednesday.

“There is a possibility of 50ml expected in places over southern Gauteng, in Joburg and Vereeniging,” she said.

Tawana said the rain would probably continue on Thursday, and for Friday there was a 30 percent chance of rain.

JMPD chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar said there had been two fatal accidents on Monday on the M2 and N12.

“A motorcyclist was knocked over and died and a pedestrian was hit by a truck and also died,” said Minnaar.

Another accident happened at the Elias Motsoaledi and Braam Fischer Road in Dobsonville, but no fatalities occurred.

The metro police chief said it was important for drivers to follow these tips:

* Inspect your vehicle’s wipers.

* Inspect the tyres.

* Allow for extra time when travelling as traffic is worse when there is rain.

* Plan ahead and leave early.

* Slow down as the oil on the tarmac from vehicles becomes slippery when it is raining.

* Be sure to increase your following distance.
