Johannesburg - Motorists have been warned to use alternative routes tomorrow because many roads around the FNB Stadium precinct will be closed during the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) and Gauteng police would enforce strict traffic-control measures from 9am, JMPD spokesman Wayne Minnaar said.

No vehicles will be allowed access to the stadium without the limited parking tickets.

Only tickets for people with disabilities will be sold from the stadium - and for Friday only. Tickets cost R50.

Parking will be available at the Nasrec showgrounds and at Shareworld for motorists who do not have tickets to park within the immediate stadium area.

Motorists have been advised to use the park-and-ride public transport services to and from the stadium. This includes the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT), metrorail trains and Top 6 minibus taxis.

Metrorail trains will ferry fans from Vereeniging, Springs, Mabopane and Saulsville in Tshwane and Park Station in the Joburg CBD.

A park and rail service will be provided at all stations. The cost for a return ticket is R40 across all stations.

The Rea Vaya buses will be made available from Ellis Park, Library Gardens, Thokoza Park and Dobsonville to the stadium.

A return ticket costs R25.

The buses will start ferrying fans from 11.15am. The last buses will run at 7pm.

Top 6 taxis will operate transport services to the stadium from the Joburg CBD’s MTN taxi rank and most of Soweto from 11am.

Motorists are advised to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion.
